Already the 1st of April. The start of the North Sea Regatta is coming closer
Did you know that this year the North Sea Regatta is about “Who has the most beautiful swimming trunks”, because it is a party by the sea! If you put on your swimsuit on Saturday during the North Sea Regatta when you enter the harbor, you might just win a prize. In order to promote the swimsuit wear, you will receive a real North Sea Regatta swimsuit as a gift on 1 April in the clubhouse of the yacht club.
This year many new people are involved in organizing the North Sea Regatta. For example, a completely new foundation board has recently been installed. We would like to introduce you to the three new members.
The new chairman of the North Sea Regatta Foundation is Peter Tjalma (57).
We briefly get to know him.
Who is Peter Tjalma?
Already from his sixth year you could find him on small sailing boats on the Wijde Aa, the Braassem,
the Kaag and the Frisian lakes. Later followed by IJsselmeer, Waddenzee and Zeeland with
larger boats. The switch to salt water is quickly made, he still enjoys it a lot. Meanwhile, he has a few sailing miles behind him in the IJspegels and the North Sea Regattas, many crossings to England and cruising in Greece, Croatie and the Carieb. He lives in Voorburg. In working life, he is active as a business economist.
Where can you wake Peter up for? A long sailing trip.
Paul den Hoed:
The new treasurer of the North Sea Regatta Foundation is Paul den Hoed. In contrast to the other new board members, Paul is not a competitive sailor at all but a nice weather cruiser. He has been active for years in the board of Jacht Club Scheveningen. In his free time, Paul mediates between interim managers in the world of logistics and chain supply.
Paul is often awake but when he sleeps he can always be woken for: a social gathering with nice people.
Who is Radboud Crul and what does he do in the foundation board of the North Sea Regatta.
Radboud has been a passionate sailor, a racing sailor at sea for many years. Based on his experience and on his motivation, he has been involved in the organization of the North Sea Regatta since 1991. After some years at a distance, he joined the foundation with the aim of supporting the festively competing sailing on the North Sea, this unique location. Because on the waters of Scheveningen you can race competitively, in other words, right on our doorstep!!!
What can we expect from the board?
The developments in the world of sailing and beyond are going fast. That means that we as members of the Board, in good consultation with the sailors, the Jachtclub Scheveningen, the sponsors, the municipality and all volunteers, must respond to those changing circumstances. How we will do that together will probably be filled in as it comes. Being flexible will be the key. The first goal is: attractive, fair and exciting competitions off the coast of Scheveningen, to England and back, with for all sailors, volunteers and sponsors, a pleasant, fun and successful top event.
With this new North Sea Regatta foundation Board, we are going to make a nice party by the sea.
