The organization of the NSR is in full swing and the program is starting to take shape. The registrations are coming steadily, many former participants but also new stars have already registered. Will you be present too? Without you it will be a little less splashing.
Did you know that 10 berths are available this year for competitors from NSR and the Offshore Sailing World Championship 2018 during the period 21 May – 12 July? You have to participate in the NSR and also at the Worlds.
If you only compete in de NSR or you do not want to stay in de harbor, you have to leave the harbor before the 15th of June. Due to the constructions for the finish of the Volvo Ocean Race. You can return to Scheveningen harbor as of the 2nd July. Or you can opt for the special offer as mentioned for one of the 10 berths. You can register for a berth at the Jachtclub via www.jachtclubscheveningen.com/registration-form-berth-nsr-till-wcoffshore. Here you can find the conditions and prices.
Information can also be found at`: www.offshoresailingworlds2018.com
A good alternative is the nearest marina, Marina Seaport IJmuiden www.marinaseaport.nl. We are investigating the possibility of setting up a shuttle service from IJmuiden to Scheveningen during the Volvo Ocean Race Festival. Interested parties for the shuttle van register at firstname.lastname@example.org.
And there is some another news. This year a new VHF voice can be heard during the start of the Vuurschepenrace on 8 May in Scheveningen and at every start of the NSR from 18 to 20 May. You do not want to miss it. So, register quickly and be there.
To get to know the VHF voice a bit better, here is an introduction to the new VHF voice for the NSR. Her name is Liesbeth van Oort. She will share with you the countdown for the start and the important information about the race from the wheelhouse of the Estralla, the Albatros or one of the other ships this year, so listen carefully.
The VHF voice – Liesbeth van Oort
Dear NSR participant, it is my honor and pleasure to be your voice that blares the VHF at the start of every race! I myself am a daring sailor, both touring with nice trips to or in Denmark, England, France, Germany, Belgium, Croatia, Greece and especially the Dutch mudflats or as a member of one of the racers. It is always a nice feeling when the radio is on and there is quiet talk about what is important to know during the trip.
I have been sailing from an early age. Lovely that wind through your hair and the sun on your face. I live in the Hague and am 38 years old. Besides sailing I love skiing, hockey, swimming, cycling, theater, all water sports, sipping wine and traveling. I work as a project manager at Schiphol Airport, in short, if there is something to build or rebuild at Schiphol, the project managers will arrange this from start to finish. A dynamic job, just like participating in a sailing competition.
In the summer of 2016 I was allowed to sail along on the Lucifer, a Seaquest 32. My first experience was the NSR with this ship. Fantastic!!! Due to personal circumstances I was not able to compete with them in 2017 but hopefully in 2018 again, only the NSR is a little too early … but I did not want to miss this NSR. How beautiful it is then to become the voice of the NSR! How delicious will it be on the water and enjoy the beautiful race and also be part of the organization as one of the volunteers.
